It’s all but confirmed! Apple will unveil the next generation iPhone at an event on Tuesday, September 10th. The news comes from WSJ’s AllThingsD which has a great track record of accurately reporting such event dates.

Ina Fried of ATD writes:

Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone at a special event on Sept. 10, sources told AllThingsD.

The launch comes at an important time for Apple, which continues to make a lot of money from the iPhone but has seen its global market share dip amid a growing wave of lower-cost Android devices as well as an intense battle with archrival Samsung.

As for what to expect from Apple at the event: it is likely that Apple will unveil a spec-bumped version of the iPhone 5, rumored to be ‘iPhone 5S’, which will reportedly feature a 12-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, higher resolution screen, fingerprint sensor, faster processor and more, along with a budget-friendly model ‘iPhone 5C’ for the lower-end market.

Final public version of iOS 7 will also likely make its debut at the same event.

AllThingsD’s report doesn’t mention anything about the iPads which if anything means that Apple will hold a separate event, in October or November, for the next-gen iPads.

OS X Mavericks will be released in the coming weeks, likely before the September 10th event.

Earlier today, Vietnamese site Tinhte released a number of photos showing both iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C mockups in full glory. You can check out the said images along with a comparison of them with current iPhone 5 here:
